Ibiza can be very tricky to get around if you don’t have a car, mostly because the only available public transport is the bus network.. there’s no train or metro! Obviously there are many hire car companies but dependent on where you’re staying, parking can be a problem, or maybe you want to have a drink! (Note that the drink/drive limit in Spain is stricter than in the UK.) Here’s my tips for getting around Ibiza without a car:
- Bus: The bus network goes between the major urbanisations and during the summer, to all the main beaches from the nearest hub. There are 3 hubs: Ibiza Town, Sant Antoni & Santa Eularia (though there are a few routes from other points). To get information on all the routes and times, download the app ‘Ibiza Bus Oficial’, or go to the Ibiza Bus website.
- You pay the driver when you get on – most routes are around €2.
- Most routes have separate timetables for summer (verano) and winter (invierno), and for weekdays vs weekends. Some routes do not run on Sundays at all.
- Buses do not run through the night – last buses can be as early as 9pm. There is a ‘discobus’ service which serves the clubs throughout the night.
- There are 3 airport routes:
- L10 to Ibiza Town
- L9 to Sant Antoni
- L24 to Santa Eularia & Es Canar
- Bike or Scooter:
- Ibiza Town now has a pay as you go bike or scooter hire service, with ‘Dott‘. Download the app and register! There are ports on street corners throughout Ibiza Town and it´s outskirts.
- You can hire a bike at any of the bike shops in the main urbanisations, for example La Cicloteca in Ibiza Town or Kandani in Santa Eularia. I wouldn´t advise cycling along the major roads from Ibiza Town to San Antonio or Santa Eularia, but there are bike lanes all over Ibiza Town, there is a long bike lane from Ibiza Town, through Santa Gertrudis to Sant Miguel, and it’s very easy to cycle from Ibiza Town to Figueretes, Playa d’en Bossa and Salinas. It’s also really easy to cycle around Sant Antoni Bay and along the boardwalk in Sant Antoni.
- Make sure you have a good bike lock and do not leave a bike locked outside overnight (not if you want to see it again…..)
- Taxi: There is only one official taxi company in Ibiza, and they have an app which you can use to get a price estimate, order a taxi, and track its arrival. You have to create an account, so don´t leave it until you´re seeing double at 5 in the morning, create an account while you´re waiting for your flight to Ibiza!!! Note that it works wonderfully out of season, but not all the time during the season (when it is better to call the office…). Download the app ‘TaxiClick’, or call +34 971 333 333 / +34 971 333 314.
- Uber: In 2024, Uber was approved in Ibiza! But only for a handful of taxis and multi-passenger cars. Out of season it´s definitely worth looking at the prices and availability in Uber.
- Water Taxi: These are a fun, cheap and reliable way to get around! There are routes between Ibiza Town and Botafoch, Talamanca, Figueretes, Playa d’en Bossa, Santa Eularia and Cala Llonga (plus the hippy market at Es Canar on Wednesdays). From Santa Eularia and Sant Antoni you can also get a water taxi to various nearby beaches and in the case of Sant Antoni, to various hotels in Sant Antoni bay.
