Ibiza Town is a great place to hang out, have a drink and watch the world go by, and if you go to the right places it doesn’t have to cost a fortune and you can avoid the bars that try to tempt you in with 2 for 1 on cocktails!  Here’s my 7 favourite places to drink in Ibiza Town:

• Any bar on the Plaça del Parc: This tree lined square sitting at the foot of the walls of the Dalt Vila is a residents’ favourite (most of the bars are open all year and it’s always buzzy here, even in January!), and has a whole string of terraces to choose from.  My favourite is Reset (the one next to the pizza restaurant at the top end of the square), but they’re all very similar (except you can only pay in cash at Madagascar).  It’s much cooler and more intimate than it’s neighbour, the Vara de Rey.

• S’Escalinata: This bar is up in the Dalt Vila and overlooks the Plaça del Parc.  You sit on giant beanbags on the steps of the Dalt Vila, overlooking the rooftops of Ibiza Town.  They do great cocktails and it’s a great place to be at sunset, where you can watch the colours in the sky change as it gets dark. The easiest way to find it is to enter the Dalt Vila in the tunnel at the side of the Plaza Reina Sofia, and you’ll see it right in front of you at the top of the stairs.

• Paradise Lost: Another residents’ favourite as it’s a bit off the beaten track.  They have a small terrace but really you want to be inside to check out the speakeasy-eque, cool interior.  Great cocktails!

• Barrio Santa Creu: This area has many restaurants (where you can sit and have a drink if they’re not busy) but also a couple of bars including Le Comptoir.  It’s a cool place to hang out because you can start with a few drinks then move on to a restaurant (or 2!), and it’s totally off the usual tourist beaten track.

• The Standard Hotel on Vara Del Rey: Either downstairs or up on the terrace… The Standard Ibiza opened in 2022 and it´s been a massive hit ever since.  Hosting lots of events during the winter, it´s quickly become a favourite with residents!
• Bulín Cocktail Club near the main car park in Ibiza Town.  A proper cocktail bar with proper cocktails, it also has a little back room where they sometime have live music.

• Teatro:  Huge bar in El Puerto hotel, where there´s a very good live band every night.  Note that the prices of the drinks jump massively once the band comes on!  Teatro has quite a history on the island, as it used to be housed in the front part of the old Teatro Pereira, but the owners were not able to renew their lease in 2018, because the building is being refurbished back into a theatre.  They opened a new bar/restaurant in Talamance which didn´t really work, but thankfully found this new home in 2019, with all the same staff and the same band.
